The family of Capt Nathan E. Heard have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to stand a flagline and accompany our Hero from the mortuary to the cemetery.  We will be honored to do so.

Capt Heard enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served with distinction through 23 years of service.  He served his country from 1949 to 1971 first as Enlisted then as a Communication Officer.  He served a combat tour of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam.  During his years of service he served consecutively with 4 brothers, also in the Marine Corps at the same time.  At one point in his Vietnam tour, he and two other brothers were in Da Nang at the same time.  They met and each admonished the others to take advantage of the (only one family member in combat at a time) regulation.  None of them opted to leave and all finished their tours of duty.

After his retirement for the military Nathan formed a telecommunications company which he later sold.

Nathan's surviving immediate family include daughters, Lynne, Vicki, Karen, and Melanie.  Capt Heard's brother, the only surviving brother from that meeting in Da Nang served in the A Shau Valley, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive from 68-70 and will be there in full military uniform for his brothers service.
