The San Jacinto Sheriff Dept. has extended an invitation to the Patriot Guard for the memorial service of  Officer Sultan who laid down his life in the performance of his duties, to save his fellow Officer and handler Deputy Sheriff Mark Wallace.

Sultan, a 3 yr. old Belgian Malinois-German Shepherd mix was shot and killed on Jan.21 by a man hiding from deputies in a crawlspace under a house near Hemet

Sultan is the first K-9 killed in action since the department's K-9 program began in 1982. Sultan was born in Slovakia and loved going for runs and then reclining in a bath. He howled in the backseat of his police car at all sirens. He only responded to commands in Czech.

State Senator Jeff Stone, from Temecula, adjourned the Jan. 22nd Senate session in Sultan's memory. He is truly missed by everyone on the Department that knew him.

The suspect got into a shoot out with Police and was subsequently killed. He was wanted for numerous crimes.

In Remarks to the Board of Supervisors, Sheriff Stan Sniff called Sultan "A Hero who likely saved the deputy's life the afternoon he was killed."
